Program Overview

Early pregnancy is one of the leading causes of school dropouts for girls in the Dandora slums, often trapping them in a lifetime of extreme poverty and dependency. Our Support for Young Mothers program is designed to intervene at this critical juncture, offering a second chance at education, financial independence, and personal dignity.

We refuse to let a teenage pregnancy dictate the end of a young woman's potential. Through a combination of entrepreneurship training, psychological support, and our dedicated daycare services, we enable young mothers to either seamlessly reintegrate into the formal school system or launch their own micro-businesses. We empower the mother, which directly secures the future of the child.

What We Do

  • School Reintegration: Providing the financial and emotional support necessary for teenage mothers to return to high school and complete their exams.
  • Entrepreneurship Training: Teaching essential business skills, financial literacy, and market research for those opting for self-employment.
  • Business Start-up Support: Providing seed capital, inventory, or equipment to help young mothers launch sustainable micro-enterprises.
  • Free Daycare Services: Removing the childcare barrier so mothers can study or work with peace of mind.
  • Economic Empowerment & Mentorship: Ongoing counseling to build self-esteem, reproductive health awareness, and financial independence.

Our Goals

Short-term Goals

  • Provide immediate safe daycare solutions for infants of teenage mothers in the program.
  • Equip young mothers with the basic capital and knowledge to start generating a daily income.
  • Destigmatize early pregnancy within the community and provide a safe space for healing and growth.

Long-term Vision

  • Ensure every young mother in our program achieves complete financial independence.
  • Break the generational cycle of poverty by ensuring the children of these young mothers grow up in stable, nourished environments.
  • Create a network of successful Barrizi alumni mothers who mentor newly enrolled girls.

Our Impact

  • 6 teenage mothers successfully reintegrated into the formal school system (2023–2024).
  • Multiple young mothers have gained financial independence through our targeted entrepreneurship training.
  • Provided a holistic safety net that protects both the young mother and her infant from the dangers of the dumpsite.

How You Can Help

  • Provide Seed Capital: Donate specifically to our micro-grant fund to help a young mother buy her first business inventory.
  • Support the Daycare: Contribute towards baby formula, diapers, and educational toys for our community daycare.
  • Mentor a Mother: Female business leaders can offer remote or in-person mentorship on running a small enterprise.
